Daylight Glasnevin 2026 Update

Cozy January vibes to you all ✨

We are back in the swing of things at Daylight after the holiday break and want to share some changes and updates.

Space upgrades - We are currently planning to install more laminate flooring over the concrete section of our main space. It’ll look great and suit more types of use such as dance. We also are organising the creation and installation of a cobb wall for some sound insulation (and it’ll be good craic learning how to do it - we’ll call out for volunteers, keep an eye on our Instagram)

We’ll also be painting the space soon using some recycled paint from the ReDiscovery Centre. Another upgrade will be some more heating options for the downstairs area.
Changes like these are all to encourage more frequent and diverse uses of Daylight for daytime and arts events. Get in contact at eventsglasnevin@gmail.com if you have an idea for a workshop, meet-up, exhibition, play rehearsal time or anythin’ else!

As of January 1st, the Free tier of our Patreon has been removed as a subscription option, but anyone who would still like to have a free sub can get in contact with us - no questions asked - email us.

On Monday January 19th from 7-8pm we’ll be having an open committee meetingthat anyone can attend in Daylight. The meeting will be online as well as in person. You can access the Google Meet call here. Hope you can attend (no speaking/participation necessary)

We’re organising a deep clean this Sunday 18th (time TBC), so if you’d like to come along and help out, keep an eye on our Instagram for the time.

Our new Chair, Lauren, has made us a shiny website! It’s great for us to finally have a public-facing platform that has what we’re all about. We’ll be updating it as the year goes on.

We have been using the platform flypost.ie to post events happening in Daylight, so keep an eye on there to see all the deadliness going on.

Finally, we have a bit of a favour to ask - we are trying to gauge how well we’re doing in communicating what Daylight is about, how it works, how it’s being used, and what we could do better. If you have a few mins, please fill out this survey to help us improve Daylight.

Zahra Haji Fath Ali Tehrani, Grainnemir Abulalrob and Viva Dean live tonight at 7pm

Hello dear members,

Hope this finds you all in good spirits. Thank you to everyone who joined us for our AGM and to all our council members for stepping up and pitching in! Daylight is in very capable hands for another year <3

We have a run of events happening at the space before the year ends. First up, please join us at 7pm tonight for a very special evening of experimental sound and performance, featuring a stellar lineup of artists: Zahra Haji Fath Ali Tehrani, Grainnemir Abulalrob and Viva Dean.

The event is curated by Aoife Hammond with support from Leo Jeffreys, two long-time legends who have given so much to the DIY community in Ireland. This is going to be a beautiful evening, not to be missed!

Zahra Haji Fath Ali Tehrani is an Iranian Irish queer composer and multi-instrumentalist whose work explores intimacy, memory and identity through a distinctive blend of lo-fi jazz punk, shoegaze textures and contemporary folk influences. For this performance, Zahra appears with Jilaine Wheatcroft, opening up the emotional and sonic range of their live set.

Dublin-based Palestinian artist Grainnemir Abulalrob works across physical theatre, writing and storytelling. Their practice centres voice, presence and narrative, creating performance rooted in clarity, perspective and lived experience.

Viva Dean, a Belfast-based artist and educator, works at the intersection of gender, technology and sound. Their live sets use the body as an interface for electronic instruments, producing textured noise, disrupted rhythmic patterns and distinctive sound.

On the night, Grainnemir Abulalrob and Viva Dean will also collaborate live, bringing their practices together in a shared improvisational work.

The event operates on a suggested-donation basis, with all contributions supporting the artists and Daylight.

We're holding our Annual General Meeting to elect members to the council and you're all invited :)

Well! How’s things? We had to take a pause on these newsletters when the one and only ❤️ Naoise ❤️ took a step back from their role as Secretary. We’re all really grateful to Naoise for the years of work they put into Daylight, they did such an amazing job keeping members informed week on week, taking minutes at council meetings, running gigs in the space and crushed it with fundraising too, raising hundreds of euro and all with a smile on their face. A Daylight hero through and through!

A lot has been happening within our four walls: Irish dance classes, bike repair sessions, regular cooks led by Food Not Bombs, a library nook for zines under the staircase, a haunted house, organising meetings for vital political groups and plenty of gigs. Special shouts out to our Membership & Volunteer Co-ordinator Phelim for wrangling a soundsystem working group and raising over €500 for the cause with the first ever Soundheads Fundraiser gig. Phelim, Reflekta and Baliboc lulled everyone into dubby tweaker bliss on the night and made it look easy. If you are a DJ or party starter and want to run a fundraiser night to help get us closer to our very own soundsystem, reach out.

Next on the agenda is our Annual General Meeting this Sunday 2nd November at 7pm. The meeting will be held in Daylight, we encourage all members to be present and have your say in the future of the space. Zoom access will be available for anyone who can’t make it in person, but if you can make it along please do. These meetings are a rare opportunity to be together, meet everyone keeping the space going and acknowledge everyone’s hard work. We’ll put the kettle on, bring your dinner if you like and lock in.

The main objective for our AGMs are to re-elect volunteers to the council who want to keep going in their role, and to elect new coordinators. HERE is a link to a form with info on the roles up for grabs and we’ll follow up asap with an agenda for the AGM itself, a link to cast your vote in the election and a zoom link for remote attendance.

If you have ever run or attended a party in the space, used the space for your projects or meetings, or even just smoked a rollie out front, please consider putting yourself forward for a role. If you are not a paying member, please upgrade to give what you can. Daylight has survived as the only members-led co-op space of its kind in Dublin for two years now and that is a huge achievement. Lastly, long-time studio resident and champion DIY organiser Leo has done incredible work putting together a proposal for an audit of the space in order to take stock of current challenges and identify potential solutions. This is a huge help at a critical moment for Daylight and we’re hoping it’ll help current and incoming Coordinators with their work, and make the space more functional for all members. Have a read, it gives a useful overview of things as they stand.

A final thank you to the dozens of people who keep things ticking over every day, from the coordinators and studio members to everyone who helps out at gigs, mops the floor, restocks the toilet paper and to the hundreds of members subscribed on Patreon (546 to be exact!), Daylight wouldn’t exist without all of us.
